Welcome to erbacce-press where we offer you, as a writer, a unique service including the opportunity to have your book published entirely for free or with a generous subsidy to cover design, editing and type-setting... our aim is to ensure that poets get paid for their work and we wage continuous war on parasitical Vanity Publishers...
erbacce-press sprang from the poetry journal erbacce (it rhymes with ‘apache’ and is of Italian derivation referring to ‘weeds’). Alan Corkish and Andrew Taylor are established and widely published writers who know from experience how difficult it can be to get work accepted by publishers when your name is unknown; the poetry journal erbacce was established to give a voice to new and radical poets; those whose work may not have been accepted elsewhere. The journal ‘featured’ a poet in each edition thus the chosen poet would get a full 20 pages to highlight their work.
Alan and Andrew then decided to create erbacce-press because there were some poets whom they felt really should be read more widely; they decided that initially they would subsidise some poets and writers by providing free design, type-setting and editing and, with selected authors, even providing a completely free print-run.
Ideally erbacce-press seeks to establish a writers' cooperative. We are setting the ball rolling by offering FREE services to writers which means you could get your first 36 page chap-book published and delivered at no cost; all costs will be met by erbacce-press and/or fellow writers. Briefly this is what we envisage; we select writers whom we think are in some way different or talented, we pay for their first published work. The writer then gets the completed books and sells them at gigs or in local bookshops and IF all are sold then that should make the writer a profit of around £120.00 to £180.00 depending on cover-price. We would then hope that the writer would make a donation to erbacce-press so that we can plough the money back into helping another writer to create his or her first chap-book or collection BUT there is no obligation to make any donation.
