Beneath your birds, blue-black metallic
to the touch of light,
those unmarked stirrings grow...
to melt
the first blanket of shadowed, blackened liquid,
without the knuckles of the world bared,
with its long swollen fingers (devouring)
the other side of wilt.
Traces, vapours
emerge in scraped out palm -
the mirror of touch-lost lines of concaved
ribs, the fist pushing the rope, the echoes
shuttering; constantly separating the living
from the dead. The oratories spell out swans,
biting themselves to stave off the unknown
nights.
Survive the picture, in misnomers, sentences
gorging on full blades of grass teething mouth.
Discharge half-opened bellied spiders with
the relief of language,
its sculpted voids - monuments to contrast.
Their fluttering wings fold under the violence of hours,
your gardenias crawl into your skull. Shiver and water
with wild sweat, twist your hair to baskets, trans-
humanise the crash into the perfection of icing.

Also by Whiteley:
The alpha is his swollen larynx,
the omega
his everyday act of lying, his uneven
still lifes of dead birds, forgiven
their mucky feathers, a mock show
resurrected
syllables of their shrieks forever
pushing blood through his walls
to the very last day. He sits
quietly.
Laughing.
He is a man within a man,
the other with a flesh of bread,
rises through warmth of the dark,
again
and again,
speaking rustling mirror words,
fervid with stutters of silent thrills
born of tragedies. He and he
love
a close up of white breath, a scream,
eyes burnt inwards, cold, translucent
universe of veins in transit to burn.
Skin hung from the needle
in the eyes of one, heart wrung within
the hungry hands of the other. A
copious serving to chew on.
Call it a revelation
with all its liquid mercy slot in their gun jukebox.
